Bump Lovin In Chattanooga

Soon-to-be aunties descend on Beth's belly. Baby Aplin seems to be nice enough not to kick them in the face. For now. Maybe it is just so excited about all the cool stuff it's going to get tomorrow at the baby shower.

Baby at 2.5 lbs and growing

This just in from americanpregnancy.org : baby is about 14 ¼ inches long and weighs in at 2 ½ pounds.

They go on: "your baby's brain is really beginning to develop into a more complex organ. Up until this point, your baby's brain has been relatively smooth, but beginning this week his/her brain will develop grooves and indentions along its surface. The amount of brain tissue also begins to increase during the 28th week. The development of hair also continues. Eyebrows and eyelashes are visible, while the hair on your baby's head grows even longer. Your baby is also starting to look a little rounder as the fat storage under the skin continues to develop."

Here's to fat babies with healthy, wrinkly brains! Beth had another doctor's appointment today and all is well. We are feeling very lucky at this point.

And thanks to the Garrens for our first baby present, which Ben was so happy to model for you all.
Who knows, perhaps we'll all start sporting the bib and burp cloth come this summer.

Stretching our legs at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens

Got some fresh air out in the snow this past weekend. Can you believe this is Brooklyn? And it's right across the street. The garden is pretty big and has proven to be a good place for Mama Aplin to stretch her legs. All visitors to baby Aplin will have to visit BBG when they come in June.

still kickin it

Something lively is definitely going on in there..somersaults, drum solos, soccer games, or just punchin mommy for fun. Doesn't she look like she's having fun?

At this stage, nearly 7 months, the baby's brain is just as advanced as a newborn's. The baby's eyes are completely formed now and can perceive light. The baby can also hear, smell and taste and has been responsive to touch for some time. Some psychiatrists speculate that the ego, the "I" of the personality, is already beginning to form. (Thanks Sig Freud and The New Well Pregnancy Book).

Last week, Ben put together the Ikea dresser and then rocked out a little bit. He's looking forward to having someone else with superb musical taste around the house. Finally.

Beth's recent nesting activities have included organizing kitchen cabinets in super-anal fashion, dusting lampshades, cleaning candle wax off candle holders in super slow and inefficient manner, and removing god knows how many years of lint from the air vents. Ben has learned to smile and nod.

Weekend with Baby Mama's Mama

It was a busy weekend at Baby Aplin headquarters. Grandma Moonpie showed up to help with registering at the scary NYC baby stores (Babies R' Us in Union Square = large migraine). The next day she helped Beth assemble the crib, while the baby daddy was MIA in Manhattan (probably guzzling beer with his non-married, non-baby expecting friends).

Check out the handywoman skillz.

After: Crib from IKEA with all the baby clothes we own so far.

Cute, no?

Handywoman skills screeched to a halt when it came to assembling the dresser. Dead-beat baby daddy finally showed up to do something for a change.

How psyched does he look? PSYCHED.

Photos of finished product coming soon. Please try to contain your excitement.

In other news, baby Aplin is still kickin away and acquiring more real estate than ever. The little dude(tte) is approximately 13 inches long and weighs 2 pounds. Supposedly the baby can now recognize its parents' voices - let's just hope it can't remember everything we say.

MIddle name? Hamilton Place?

The inspiration for our baby's middle name? We wanted it to be the name of a place we hold dear to our hearts, somewhere special from our youth, a place that embodies the spirit that we hope our youngster will project upon the world and instill in others. It is true that there is no other place like Hamilton Place.

The first baby sweater

The first baby sweater was displayed on Christmas morning - it immediately brought tears to the eyes of all women present.
